1  Aims of the project

The main objectives of this project are two-fold: (i) analysis of quantum engineering of quantum optical and condensed matter states and devices directly relevant for quantum information related tasks (storage, information processing, metrology or quantum cryptography), and (ii) characterization of equilibrium and dynamic properties of fundamentally important interacting, exotic states of matter - in particular, topological phases (potential quantum memories) and phases of non-canonical fermion systems - that may be engineered in the near future in quantum simulators based on ultra cold atoms. Our research on quantum engineering refers to studying quantum statics and dynamics, coherent control of these quantum systems, including effects of quantum decoherence. The research proposed here covers a broad physical spectrum: from single atoms and photons to many-photon and many body systems. To be more specific, we would like to challenge the following tasks:
Task A: QUANTUM ENGINEERING VIA LIGHT-MATTER INTERACTIONS
A.1 Coherent control of artificial atoms in optical cavities
A.2 Quantum-to-classical transitions of quantum correlations in two-level atoms
Task B: QUANTUM ENGINEERING IN CONDENSED MATTER SYSTEMS
B.1 Quantum phase transitions in interacting exotic systems
B.2 Non-equilibrium dynamics in interacting exotic systems
B.3 Quantum information processing in quantum wells
Task C: QUANTUM ENGINEERING IN PHOTONIC SYSTEMS
C.1 Generation of stationary and non-stationary nonclassical optical states
                                C.2 Photonic state-dependent quantum amplifiers
C.3 Quantum phase transitions and multifunctional quantum cloners
